A Letter to the Dead
I thought about you today.
Been doing that a lot lately.
I miss your smile and your laugh.
I miss talking with you.
I feel pretty lucky to be your sister.
We were able to communicate on a level that few others ever understand.
Your dog is still with me, old as dirt and running the show.
I love when he snuggles up next to me;
It makes me feel close to you again.
The hardest thing is knowing I’ll never walk nextdoor and see you there again, except in photos. You won’t be calling me saying we need to talk.
You don’t need me any more now that you are running around Heaven with your new and perfect body.
I am happy for you.
But I miss you terribly.
Taking care of you was a blessing.
I didn’t always behave like it, but I was grateful to be the one you always called for help.
Losing you has left a huge hole in me — it’s a black hole that tries to suck the joy out of every other part of my life.
I heard a woman say once that grief isn’t something you get over. Rather you just learn to walk along…
