Disconnected but Together

Photo by Alice Moore on Unsplash

My nieces are visiting this week — early teens — and I am finding it hard to connect with them. They seem bored all the time, but unwilling to stop looking at their phones, get off their butts and do anything. And they constantly have one ear plugged with an earbud, the wired mate dangling from a shoulder, so I feel like they are only half listening. Listening to music? Listening to me? To what I have no idea.
