Small Town Summer Day
A beautiful morning, yoga and coffee. Read the news, play with the dogs.
A ride in the big truck to Murray’s BBQ, old men telling older tales.
A family reunion — gray haired women asking who I belong to; more stories; kids running in and out, doors slamming. Pot luck, casseroles and cobbler, pictures and hugs. Promises that won’t be kept.
A sleepy drive home and a smile as we pass by Murray’s.
Dogs barking ‘Welcome Home!’ Tails wagging. An evening walk in the woods. Birds chirping, settling in. Tree frogs warming up for their performance at dusk.
The setting sun ushers in a slight breeze, the temperature drops.
Lawn chairs, fireworks — God Bless America.
